Right now, the media is referring to me as a “medical cannabis advocate” but that isn’t the complete story.  Mostly, I am a mother who suffered horribly with Crohn’s Disease for years.  People need to understand what it is like within the living hell that is Crohn’s. Crohn’s is severe inflammation of the intestines.

Modern medicine doesn’t have a cure for Crohn’s so surgeons try to cut it out. They removed portions of my intestines including my ileum. Then opened me up to expose my intestines so they could remove scar tissue from them and, at 29 years old, I had a complete hysterectomy that removed my uterus and both ovaries because of scar tissue.

In addition to the surgeries, doctors prescribed dangerous and toxic pharmaceuticals with their own horrible risks and side effects. None of this cured my disease and finally the doctors told me that there was nothing else they could do.

At that time, smoking cannabis helped me manage the pain and stress but smoking did not stop the Crohn’s symptoms.

Not only was this hell for me, it was hell on my family.  Have you ever watched someone you love suffer in torment and pain with nothing you can do about it?  If so, you know how hard it is on everyone; especially my children.

I couldn’t be the great mom I wanted to be. I couldn’t go to school functions, I couldn’t take them swimming, I couldn’t take them to a park, I was too sick.

I wanted to live. I wanted to see my children grow. I wanted to have a future both for me and for them and I was willing to try anything to get well.

Then I heard about cannabis oil. I learned about it from Run from the Cure by Chris Lauruette – The Rick Simpson Story on YouTube. The oil is extracted from the plant and then swallowed where it is able to get directly to the disease. It takes large amounts of cannabis to make cannabis oil. In Kansas I couldn’t find those amounts so I developed my own method to extract oil from small amounts of cannabis.

I tried it and in just 3 days, I was clearly healing. I couldn’t believe it! I found something that actually worked AND that was safe. It was a miracle!  Cannabis oil literally gave me my life back and it gave my kids a real mom for the very first time.

Can you imagine what that was like for all of us? As I was continuing to heal, a huge burden was lifted off my whole family. It was fantastic! It was wonderful! My despair and powerlessness disappeared and at long last I was filled with joy and with hope. I had my life back.

Cannabis oil can stop a lot of suffering. It is a safe and effective treatment for so many of us with horrendous afflictions. Doctors need to be free to try this with their patients. Based on my experience, it should be the first thing they try in many cases because it is so safe.

Also people need to be free to make their own medicine if they choose. The declaration of independence says

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

These rights are the very first article of the Bill of Rights in the Kansas Constitution says:

“All men are possessed of equal and inalienable natural rights, among which are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

All I want is the liberty to make my own life saving medicine so that I can have life and pursue happiness. Why is the State of Kansas violating its own constitution and denying me my inalienable rights guaranteed in it’s own Constitution?

The US Constitution says that our government is supposed to “promote the general welfare.”

Denying our doctors and our sick the liberty to try a safe and effective medicine is cruel and unusual and violates the founding principles and documents of the United States and of Kansas. All I’m advocating, is lets make things right by returning to principles on which our government was founded. Let’s give liberty to our doctors and their patients so that they can have life and pursue happiness.
